Dova Rock Temple

Located on the main highway between Badulla and Bandarawela, the Dova Rock Temple has murals and inscriptions dating back to the first century BC. A striking colossal unfinished rock-cut standing Buddha, carved on a cliff-face is one of its main attraction.

Tangamale Bird Sanctuary

The Tangamale Bird Sanctuary in Haputale offers excellent bird watching where a large section of Sri Lanka 's 427 varieties of endemic, resident and migrant birds, especially jungle and highland species, may be spotted.

Bogoda Bridge & Temple

The 16 th century Bogoda Bridge is the only kandyan period roofed wooden bridge left in Sri Lanka . Located on a detour of the Badulla Bandarawela road approximately 13 kilo meters from Badulla, this grateful bridge spans the rocky Gallanda oya and is constructed entirely of wood. The Gabled sinhale roof is supported on 11 pairs of elegantly carved pillars and railing of banisters and had been painted with vermillion, turquoise and ochre natural lacquer. The Bogoda Rajamaha Vihara rock temple near by, has pre-Christian era inscriptions and old murals and images.

Muthiyanganaya Temple

The Muthiyanganaya Dageba (shrine) is another great pilgrims centre, a site visited by the Buddha in the pre-chritian era. Buddhist tradition asserts that a shrine was build in the 4 th century AD. Enshrining the jaw-bone of the Buddha and great treasures, including pearls (hence its name)., the present shrine located at Badulla is however a later restoration.

Horton Plains

The eastern sections of the 7000 feet. High Horton Plains table-land lie within the Uva Province numerous exotic animals such as sambhur, leopard, black-faced, dusky toque and bear monkey, rusty spotted cat and fishing cat may be seen here. Of the century's 21 endemic varieties of birds, twelve species including the blue chat and the yellow-eared bulbul, as well as numerous resident and migrant birds may be spotted here. Rare butterflies and endemic plants such as the giant scarlet rhododendron, the acetate scented nilloo (Callophyllum walkerii) and English field flowers - poppy, speed well, harebell and meadowsweet – grow in profusion.

Adisham Monastery

Adisham is English country house surrounded by gardens and orchards. Completed in 1931 by the Scottish tea planter, Sir Thomas Villiers, since 1961 it has been a Benedictine monastery and novitiate, although the grounds and two room can be visited.
